What Golf Simplified is
A YouTube channel, a blog called Lost Balls & Lessons, a short PDF called The Mental Game Playbook and a small shop. All of it is for amateur golfers who'd rather think their way to a lower score than grind for another ten yards. Each piece takes one problem, explains it plainly, and shows the research behind it.
Who I am
I'm an Australian amateur golfer, not a coach or a tour pro. I play when I can fit a round in around the kids and family, and my favourite course is Murwillumbah in New South Wales. So when I write about the mental game, I'm writing as someone who has made every one of these mistakes, then gone looking for why.
My golf in three rounds
| Round | What happened |
|---|---|
| The 91 I couldn't beatFour years |
Four years ago I shot a 91. Then came a lot of 92s and 93s. When I finally broke 90, with an 87, I'd hit a 4-iron off every tee (not one driver), aimed at the middle of every green and tried not to count until late in the round. Why counting your score raises it |
| MurwillumbahMy favourite course |
A personal-best front nine, on the course where I usually play the back nine better. Then a back-nine blow-out, and a card that looked like an average day. Why your best rounds fall apart on the back nine |
| Jack's PointQueenstown, New Zealand |
The best I've ever played: a two-ball Ambrose against a three-ball, won on the 18th, with all the pressure off. Why you play worse the harder you try |
How I make it
- One real question at a time. Every post and video starts with something golfers actually ask, like why the back nine falls apart.
- The research, checked at the source. I read the original paper or page, not a news story about it, and every post lists its sources at the bottom.
- Mistakes get fixed in the open. When I get something wrong, I correct it and say so on the page. The back-nine post carries a correction to its own video.
- The stories are real. If a round is in a post, it happened. No invented golfers, no made-up scorecards.
- I'm not a sports psychologist. This is the mental side of a game, explained by a golfer. If golf is causing you real anxiety, a qualified professional is the right person to talk to.
